Academic Distinctions

The Liberal Arts Core requirements provide a broad general undergraduate education to integrate knowledge and enhance learning. The core experience prepares students for graduate education, professions of their choice, and lifelong learning.
A variety of pre-professional programs provide academic preparation for specialized professional pursuits and graduate study.
All undergraduates are required to complete an internship, student-teaching experience, or clinical placement related to their majors.
An Honors Program is available to qualified freshmen and transfer students.
Through the Office of Study Abroad, students can spend a semester of study in London, England; Limerick, Ireland; Florence, Italy; or Rome, Italy. Other destinations may be arranged through the Office as well.
A Marymount education draws upon the rich resources of the Washington, DC, area.

Accreditation

Marymount University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools [1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097; Phone:(404) 679-4501] to award doctoral, master's, bachelor's, and associate degrees.

The Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration programs are accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.
The Counseling and School Counseling programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Teacher preparation programs are accredited by the Division of Teacher Education and Certification of the Virginia State Department of Education and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
The M.S. in Health Care Management program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), formerly the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA).
The Interior Design undergraduate program is accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER).
Nursing programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and the State Board of Nursing of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The baccalaureate and master's programs are also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
Tracks I and II of the M.A. in Legal Administration and the Paralegal Studies programs are approved by the American Bar Association.
The Physical Therapy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

Academic Outreach

Responding to significant residential and commercial growth in Loudoun County and its surrounding communities, Marymount University has an extension site at its Loudoun Academic Center in Sterling, Virginia.

The Center offers a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs that serve both traditional and nontraditional students. Through the Center, students may complete a bachelor's degree with specializations in Business, Computer Science, Education, Humanities, or Psychology.

Graduate programs are available in Community Counseling, Education, Human Resource Management, and Management. The Center also supports distance learning programs and is a residency center for an online R.N. to B.S.N. degree program.

Corporate Outreach

Since 1996, Marymount's Office of Corporate Outreach has developed partnerships with regional corporations and government agencies. Targeted graduate and undergraduate degree and certificate programs, as well as customized training, are offered on-site and at convenient regional locations. Marymount's recent corporate/government partners have included the CIA, Computer Sciences Corporation, Navy Federal Credit Union, the Office of Naval Research, Sallie Mae, and the U.S. Postal Service.

Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area

Marymount University is a member of The Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. Other members are American University, The Catholic University of America, Gallaudet University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, The George Washington University, Howard University, Southeastern University, Trinity University, the University of the District of Columbia, and the University of Maryland at College Park. Student Services

Marymount University is committed to meeting the needs of all students and provides support services through various offices, including Campus Ministry, Career and Internship Center, Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, International Student Services, Residence Life, Student Activities, and Student Health Center.

Athletics

Marymount is an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Capital Athletic Conference. The University offers the following intercollegiate teams:
