MSC 202 Applied Business Problem Solving (4)
Provides a general understanding and appreciation of the role played by mathematics and spreadsheets in business. Develops an adequate foundation to pursue more advanced work in marketing, finance, management science, and other business areas. Prerequisites: ISY 096 or equivalent and MA 155. This course contains a significant component in the use of computers.
MSC 205 Quantitative Analysis for Information Systems (3)
Provides students studying Information Systems with a general understanding and appreciation of the role played by discrete mathematics, applied calculus, and spreadsheets in systems development and applications. It provides an adequate foundation for the student to pursue more advanced work in statistics and software design. Offered fall semester only. Prerequisites: MA 155 and ISY 096 or permission of the department chair.
MSC 300 Business Statistics (3)
Introduces students to the basic descriptive and inferential statistical procedures used in the analysis of data and testing of hypotheses in a business environment. Commonly available spreadsheet software will be used. Prerequisites: ISY 096 or equivalent, and MSC 202 or MSC 205 or equivalent. This course contains a significant component in the use of computers.
MSC 337 Production and Operations Management (3)
A study of the concepts, issues, and decisions facing production and operations managers through the identification and analysis of a variety of operational problems. Emphasis on quantitative analysis techniques used by managers to solve these problems. Extensive use of microcomputer models. Prerequisites: ISY 096 and ISY 098 or equivalents, and MSC 300. This course contains a significant component in the use of computers.
MSC 345 Project Management (3)
An introduction to the concepts, methods, and applications of project management as practiced by government and private industry. Students will become acquainted with the quantitative tools used in project management and with computer-based software tools. The course will also focus on the managerial and behavioral aspects of project management. Prerequisites: ISY 096 or equivalent, MSC 300, and MGT 304. This course contains a significant component in the use of computers.
MSC 501 Business Statistics (3)
Examines probability distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, simple regression, and correlation. Computer statistical packages will be used. This course contains a significant component in the use of computers.
MSC 516 Production and Operations Management (3)
Examines the management of production and operations, the tools and techniques used by production and operations managers, the interaction of production functions, and the synthesis of concepts and techniques relating to and enhancing the management of production systems. See department chair for course offering schedule. Prerequisite: MBA 514 or equivalent.
MSC 545 Project Management (3)
Combines quantitative tools, concepts, and methods with behavioral science techniques to enable managers to plan, initiate, organize, lead, and manage projects within matrix and project organizations, and under time pressure, rapid change conditions, and other conditions of rush.
MSC 555 Program Management (3)
Examines knowledge, strategies, and techniques needed to manage various kinds of projects, including software development and e-business projects. Strategies for improving quality and developing a project management culture within an organization are discussed, with focus on the Project Management Maturity Model. This course makes extensive use of case studies. Prerequisite: MSC 545.
MSC 585 Global Operations Strategy (3)
Introduces the students to the different concepts and global issues of operations strategy. Focuses on how manufacturing and operations can be global competitive weapons. The course addresses topics such as how American managers respond to global competition through superior quality, productivity, and new product and process development; and how operations strategy can be modified as environmental or competitive conditions change. Offered spring semester only. Prerequisite: MSC 516 or permission of department chair.
