RST 210 Phenomenon of Religion (3)
Introduces the students to the study of religion by expanding awareness of the structure, function, and complexity of the religious experience. The course examines the relation of religion, culture, and social processes and explores the manner in which religion bears on major issues of human existence.
RST 211 Religions of the World (3)
The major religions of the world are studied as various responses to the search for ultimate meaning and purpose in human existence. The course examines the basic tenets of Hinduism, Islam, Confucianism, Judaism, and Christianity.
RST 320 Religion in America (3)
An examination of the religious traditions that have shaped and have been shaped by the contours of American history. Course focuses on the history of religious confessions in the United States aiming to understand the role of religion in shaping the American society. Prerequisite: EN 102.
RST 340 Topics in Religion: Judaism in Thought and Practice (3)
Designed as one of a series of courses on religious traditions. It aims to provide an introduction to Judaism as well as an opportunity for in-depth analysis of some of its themes and practices. The course assumes no previous background in Judaism, and some information will be given through the lectures. Course involves research, discussion, and projects. Prerequisites: EN 102 and one other advanced course in the humanities or social sciences.
