The Information Systems major prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in today’s information technology field. It recognizes the changing nature of the field and prepares students to understand the principles behind the technology so that they may continue to embrace changes once in the workplace or are prepared to pursue graduate study in information systems or a related field. Students take courses in a broad range of information technology topics, including systems analysis and design, computer hardware and software, computer networking, database technology, application programming, and information security. The program recognizes the interrelationship of information systems and business practices, and students take a variety of business and management science courses. Information Systems courses are also valuable electives for students in other majors and are recommended as a minor field of study.
Students majoring in Information Systems are advised to consider a minor in Business Administration or in Computer Science.
Internship Prerequisites: A minimum of 90 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better in all courses required in the Information Systems major are needed in order to register for the internship (ISY 400).
Minimum Grade Requirements: A minimum grade of C- is required in every course that serves as a prerequisite for a
higher-numbered course in the Information Systems major.
Residency Requirement: Transfer students must complete 21 of their major credits (ISY/CS courses) at Marymount.

A minor in Information Systems is a valuable complement to many programs, particularly Business Administration, as computers play an increasingly important role in today’s workplace.
Minor Requirements
This program is designed for individuals pursuing careers designing, building, and operating the complex information systems central to the infrastructure of business and government agencies today. While providing a thorough grounding in modern information technology, this program emphasizes the efficient and effective management of information systems. It is designed to provide the academic foundation for those who seek to become a chief information officer (CIO) or attain another senior position, such as a consultant, systems integrator, or project manager in the field of information systems.
Students may choose to specialize in health care informatics, information security, or IS project management.
Students completing the Information Systems program are expected to make major contributions in their organizations by being able to:
